Governing Body

Individual Governor Profile

Type of Governor: Co-opted & SEND Governor

Reasons for becoming a Governor: I have been a governor at a special school in Bradford for almost three years now and enjoy going into school and supporting it in its aims to improve. When the opportunity arose to become a governor at my local school in Abbots Bromley, I hoped I could contribute as pay back for the education received by my own two children who are now both in their thirties.

Subject link: SEN

Background info: I am a specialist teacher in dyslexia and SEN and have worked in special, primary and secondary schools.   For the last twenty years of so I worked for the local authority firstly as a dyslexia tutor, then a SEN Support team member and finally as a SEN Advisor.    At present I work part time for a local inclusion service to train teachers to support pupils with SEN and to audit the provision provided in schools for those at risk of school failure.  I also write a monthly SEN Newsletter which means that I am up to date with all the latest guidance and legislation.

Additional info: We have lived in Abbots Bromley for almost 27 years. Our two children went to RCFS and I was a parent volunteer and a PTA member during this time.  My children’s photos are still on the wall at the school as they were the ones who initiated the first meeting with Phil Drabble many years ago.  My daughter now lives in West Yorkshire and we have two grandchildren and spend a proportion of our time up there child minding and loving every minute of it…so that is the connection with Bradford.
