Richard Clarke Will Remember…
On the 11th month of the 11th day of the 11th hour Richard Clarke First School pupils took time to remember those who have sacrificed their own lives so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we do today. Not only that, we met two inspirational members of the RAF who visited each class and talked about their roles and experiences whilst answering many many questions. What a wonderful yet poignant day we had! Richard Clarke First School also had the privilege of playing our part in the Abbots Bromley Remembrance Parade alongside the whole community. We felt honoured.

WE CAN DO IT!
Stone Age poo!
Year 3 had some visitors from the…Stone Age! They left some horrible ‘presents’ for the children to disect. We found out what types of food these early humans used to eat by looking through their poo!
It was very disgusting work!
BACT Awards Ceremony September 2019
We were invited to the sixth annual awards evening hosted by Burton Albion Community Trust where they showcased their various projects that they deliver across the community, including their work with schools. I’m thrilled to tell you they honoured our very own Mrs Care with the School Sports Star award recognising the fabulous work she does both in school and working in partnership with the trust. We are SO proud! Congatulations Mrs Care, a well deserved award.
Outstanding sport at Richard Clarke!
Our Sports Day has been won by Drabble team! WOW! For the first time in some years, Clarke have been beaten and the team in green won the day with their awesome sporting skills. Thank you to everyone who came along and supported. We’d also like to say thank you former premier league star Matty Fryatt for joining us to present our prstigious afPE award! We’re proud of the quality of PE here at our school!
Year Four children enjoying the day!
Transition Ahoy – July 2019
Year Four are preparing to fly our Richard Clarke nest and have spent two days at their new school. For most, children will be off to Oldfields Hall Middle School in Uttoxter. As part of the transition process, children have taken part in lessons, sports activities and tours of their new school.
Don’t miss Year Four’s Got Talent taking place in our school hall on Thursday, 18th July at 9.30am! It’s your last chance to see these fantastic children in action before they leave!
Easter/Spring in a box competition 2019
Well done for taking part in our Easter/Spring in a box competition! Your entries were fantastic and, as always, very creative. I loved the entry that literally put, a spring in a box! Very witty!
Congratulations to the winners and runners up, we hope you enjoyed your Easter eggs. The winners were chosen democratically by the children.
Rugby Success, April 2019
Well done to our year 4 Rugby team, pictured above who came second in the Rugby Competition held at Robert Sutton in Burton. Each and everyone one of the team played well and during the round stages won every match with ease.
The semi-final could have gone either way but they dug deep, worked well as a team and won the match 6-4 with player of the match Lottie Graney scoring four of the 6 tries, here she is getting her medal, leading the team through.
Hockey Competition at Shobnall, March 2019
Congratulations to our year 4 Hockey team who competed in the Shobnall competition on Friday 29th March. Along with over 12 other schools in two tables our team played 5 matches trying to get through the rounds to be within the top two. Unfortunately we were up against some very tough teams and didn’t get through the round stage.
Plastic Fantastic Fashion Show, March 2019
Thank you for your support with the #PassOnPlastic fashion show on Thursday. Not only did it give us the opportunity to raise awareness of the importance of recycling and how to reduce pollution it also created an opportunity for us to be creative and put on our fun show. The children were brilliant and so confident, we were really proud.
It was such a wonderful afternoon and we raised awareness of this great cause to help with the issue of plastic pollution in our oceans. Burton Albion and Billy Brewer commented on how much they enjoyed the visit to our school to join in with raising awareness for this issue. We will be making a small donation from the money raised to the charity Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) that are based in Devon and are devoted to cleaning up our seas.
Well done to Lily, our ex pupil, for running the whole project! Brilliant job.
The money raised (£146.00) will be put together with the disco money to buy a brand new resource called ‘1 decision’ that will help us deliver an improved PSHEe (Personal, social, health, economic education) curriculum.
Thank you again for your co-operation.
Email from Grandparent said: ‘Just a short email to say how much I enjoyed the show yesterday. So much work put in by staff and pupils who were all very enthusiastic. What a brilliant idea from the young lady concerned.’
