A beautiful rainbow tree!
The small number of keyworker children who we have had in school today, Monday 30th March, have made this beautiful rainbow tree under the expert supervision of Mrs. Johnson. Children from reception, Y1 and Y3 were involved in making it – and we’re sure you will agree it’s lovely! The children had particular fun cutting out the bugs to live down in the grass!
We have spotted lots of rainbows in and around Abbots Bromley during our walks and drives to school – it certainly makes us all smile!
As you are all aware, there have been surreal and challenging times recently in the news as schools have had to close, apart from to those children of key workers. The children in school have made this message along with the staff to our community; we miss you and can’t wait to see you all again. Take care.
World Book Day 2020
Once again, World Book Day 2020 has been an absolute blast! The children have dressed up as their favourite characters from any book that inspires them. From Gangsta Granny to Big Bad Wolf and Captain Underpants to The Queen of Hearts, we had them all and it was such a joy. We focused on bringing poetry to life today by performing, composing and illustrating. It really has been a splendid day!
GANAS DAY 2020
Ganas (verb): To win. To earn. To gain.
We love GANAS here at The Richard Clarke First School. Ganas is a spanish word for ‘desire’ so what better way to describe our project based home learning that bring our topics to life? The whole idea of the project is to give children ownership over their learning where they can explore their passions and share their joy. We had a wonderful day setting up our projects, sharing our new knowledge and experiences. The levels of engagement and the quality of the learning has been tremendous and it has proven to be such an enriching journey for all involved. Check out some of the amazing projects below!

Richard Clarke Will Remember…
On the 11th month of the 11th day of the 11th hour Richard Clarke First School pupils took time to remember those who have sacrificed their own lives so that we can enjoy the freedoms that we do today. Not only that, we met two inspirational members of the RAF who visited each class and talked about their roles and experiences whilst answering many many questions. What a wonderful yet poignant day we had! Richard Clarke First School also had the privilege of playing our part in the Abbots Bromley Remembrance Parade alongside the whole community. We felt honoured.

Stone Age poo!
Year 3 had some visitors from the…Stone Age! They left some horrible ‘presents’ for the children to disect. We found out what types of food these early humans used to eat by looking through their poo!
It was very disgusting work!
BACT Awards Ceremony September 2019
We were invited to the sixth annual awards evening hosted by Burton Albion Community Trust where they showcased their various projects that they deliver across the community, including their work with schools. I’m thrilled to tell you they honoured our very own Mrs Care with the School Sports Star award recognising the fabulous work she does both in school and working in partnership with the trust. We are SO proud! Congatulations Mrs Care, a well deserved award.
